Brimmed with commitment and enthusiasm, Governor Godwin Obaseki on Thursday said Mr Asue Ighodalo, Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will raise the current annual budget of N450 billion to N1 trillion for more developmental projects if the later is elected Governor in the September 21st governorship election.
The Governor gave the assurance at the PDP Campaign Flag-off Ubiaja, headquarters Esan South East Local Government Area of the State where he recalled his relationship with Mr Ighodalo in their University days 40 years ago.
He revealed that the PDP Candidate didn’t join the race for the sake of money or fame or name, but for the passion to serve his homeland.
“When I came into government, our first budget was less than N100 billion. But we moved it to N450 billion. Ighodalo and Osarodion will move it to N1 trillion to have enough money to do projects,” he said.
Addressing PDP faithful and supporters at the campaign, the PDP Candidate, Mr Asue Ighodalo promised to consolidate on Governor Obaseki’s legacy and transform the economic potentials of the the State, including Agriculture and manufacturing sectors if he is given the mandate.
Ighodalo who spoke in English Language said promised to leverage Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (EdoBEST) programme and operate transparent government like Governor Obaseki-led government and make water scarcity in Esanland history.
In a similar vein, the member representing Esan Central/Esan West/Igueben Federal Constituency, appealed to voters to vote PDP and defending their votes, warning that attempts by the main opposition party to rig the poll will be resisted.
On his part, national leader of PDP and former Minister of External Affairs, Chief Tom Ikimi, tasked President Bola Tinubu, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and heads of Nigeria Security Agencies to deliver free and fair poll in Edo.
Earlier, the First Lady, Betsy Obaseki, urged electorate to vote PDP Candidate and resist the temptation of electing Candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the forthcoming poll, Senator Monday Okpebholo as Governor Obaseki’s successor in order not to put the State on the path of retrogression.
