Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, the Director General of Campaign organization of Asue Ighodalo, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Candidate in the September 21, 2024 governorship election in the State, has resigned from the party.
His letter, which was acknowledged by his Ward Chairman, Andrew Esemuede, Thursday 17 July, 2025, comes three months after his Eterno Hotel located in the Government Reservation Area (GRA), Benin City,
was sealed by the Edo State Development and Building Control Agency, ESDBCA during cult related violence in some part of the State.
The former Majority Leader, Edo State House of Assembly and former Edo State Commissioner, on the Board of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
Part of the letter reads, “This is a painstaking decision for me, as the PDP has played a vital role in my political journey and personal development; for this, I remain deeply grateful and will always cherish the platform the Party provided me”.
The decision Edo South leader hails from Ward 5, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, has cast a dark shadow on the uncertain future of the umbrella party ahead of 2027 general elections.
TheNewspad recalls that former Vice President and 2023 Presidential Candidate of PDP, Abubakar Atiku on Wednesday July 16th 2025, resigned his membership from the party.
Meanwhile, the last only House of Representatives member elected on the platform of PDP, representing Esan West, Esan Central and Igueben, Marcus Onobun, has dumped PDP, and will on Friday July 18th declare for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in Edo State.
Investigation revealed the State government had sealed his property in his home town, Ekpoma, Esan West, over alleged security breaches, a move considered by some leaders of opposition party in the State as political witch-hunt.
