Ighodalo: APC spent N30bn on votes, but I won Edo poll

Peoples Democratic Party Candidate for the September 21st 2024 governorship election in Edo State, Asue Ighodalo has urged members of his party and his supporters to be of good cheer and careful not to compromise principles of mutual goodwill.

He however alleged that the All Progressives Congress spent the sum of N30,000,000,000 (Thirty Billion Naira) to prosecute the election, including vote buying for Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo.

Ighodalo made the allegation while addressing some PDP leaders and his supporters late Sunday in Benin City, arising from the recent relocation of Edo State governorship election Petition Tribunal venue from Edo State to the Federal Capital Territory.

He also painted a grim picture on how the INEC allegedly colluded with some individuals stole his mandate, which he claimed was given to him by the electorate.

But he insisted that the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Candidate of APC in the election, vowing to reclaim his mandate at the governorship election Petition tribunal by the grace of Almighty God.

Ighodalo alleged that “They (APC) members do not think that we have anything to offer. In fact, they are saying that have any evidence to show that we won that election. They did not say that they did not rig the election. They knew they rigged, that is why they said go to court.

“On election day in this Nigeria, N30 billion came to Edo State, which they use to buy votes with the hope to win that election. Yet, the people collected the money and voted for us – PDP.

“When they (APC) brought that money, they were sure that when the money is spent, the job is done and concluded. But, at about 1p.m on election day, when they PDP has won the election in a landslide, they (APC) became confused and began to run helter skelter”,
alleging naughtiness as a thorn on Okpebholo’s crown amid cheers by his supporters.

According to him, “God in his infinite wisdom… when somebody wants to steal and do it arbitrarily, he is bound to make mistakes. So, by the grace of God, there is no way that we cannot win that election in court, ” Ighodalo vowed.
