How quick police response restored peace to Banunu after violent ambush

A quick-response patrol by the Nigeria Police Command in Bauchi State restored peace to Bununu town following a violent ambush by suspected thugs.

 

​The incident occurred on August 17, 2026, when a team of police operatives on routine patrol in Bununu sighted a group of hoodlums attacking three residents.

 

​According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, the three male victims, aged 28, 30, and 31, sustained injuries to the head and other parts of their bodies.

 

They were immediately evacuated to the General Hospital in Bununu, where they are currently in stable condition.

 

​Operatives arrested two suspects—identified as 23-year-old Ibrahim Hassan and 22-year-old Bilal Hassan, both residents of Bununu—for criminal conspiracy, assault, and thuggery.

 

Other members of the gang fled the scene.

​During the arrest, police recovered a sharp knife and a sharp-edged animal horn from the suspects.

 

Both individuals confessed to the crime during interrogation.

​Normalcy has since returned to the area, and the Command has deployed additional personnel to maintain surveillance and prevent further breakdowns of law and order.

“In the course of the arrest, police operatives recovered one sharp knife and a sharp edged-animal horn (kaho) from the suspects”, according to the statement in part.

 

​Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered a thorough investigation to ensure the suspects are charged to court.
