The Nigerian Army has successfully rescued Mrs Adonkie, wife of Brigadier General Basil Adonkie (Rtd), who was abducted from her residence on Tuesday 1 September 2026, the Defence Headquarters said in a statement.
Following the incident, troops of the Guards Brigade and Army Headquarters (AHQ) Garrison immediately launched a coordinated pursuit operation along multiple suspected escape routes to locate the kidnappers and secure the safe release of the victim.
The statement revealed that troops acting on credible intelligence, they advanced through the Aco Estate–Goza Community axis and established contact with the kidnappers.
Overwhelmed by the troops’ rapid response and superior firepower, the criminals abandoned the victim and fled into nearby bushes, leading to the successful rescue of Mrs Adonkie at Angwan Sabo Village.
The troops subsequently intensified the pursuit along the Aco Estate–Angwan Sayawa axis, while additional forces were deployed to block likely escape routes and prevent the criminals from evading capture.
In a follow-up operation on 2 September 2026, troops intercepted fleeing members of the kidnapping syndicate near Gaube Village in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
Alongside the two suspected kidnappers troops also recovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine and 19 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
The Troops have continued clearance and tracking operations across the general area to apprehend the remaining suspects.
