Group slams bearing of arms by mob attack victims

A socio-cultural group, Benin Solidarity Movement, has condemned the bearing of arms by victims of the mob attack in Uromi, Esan North East local government area in Edo State last Thursday.

In a joint statement signed by the President and Secretary Benin Solidarity Movement BSM Worldwide, elder Curtis Eghosa Ugbo, and Comrade Osayande Goodluck, strongly condemned jungle justice and commiserated with family victims.

Recall that the victims were burnt to death in suspicion of being kidnappers who were accosted by local vigilante operatives, searched and firearms were recovered from the truck they boarded.

The armed men were said to be interstate hunters, buried in a mass grave at the Muslim cemetery on Saturday after prayers were offered for the repose of their souls.

But, the group clarified that it’s against jungle justice, but wondered condemned the action of some politicians who are politicizing security challenges in Nigeria.

He queried those who supporting the action of the Fulani gun men apprehended at Uromi should tell the whole world why they were bearing arms and entering Uromi with arms?

It also said whether the action of the gun men is not a premeditated plan to invade Uromi and its neighbouring Communities?

The statement further urge the supporters of the gunmen whether Dangote trucks conveying the gunmen is a passenger vehicle?

“Also let them explain whether Southerners living in the Northern part of the country can carry firearms illegally ?

“Why did they refuse to submit themselves to search when the vigilantes wanted to search them, but rather stabbed one of the vigilantes instead of submitting to the search?

Why were they carrying arms into Uromi? What is the guarantee that they were not coming to invade Uromi and other communities in Edo State”?

While calling on the politicians who they alleged to be supporters of the gunmen to refrain from making inflammatory statements, the group tasked security agencies to investigate those aiding criminals in Edo State and prosecute them accordingly.
