The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) says it has taken steps to evacuate inmates from the Maiduguri Custodial Centres, ravaged by flood to a safer facility and ensure smooth operations.
The move was in response to the disaster that displaced thousands of residents and impacted private and public facilities in most parts of the State.
The unfortunate incident is a natural disaster, which was caused by the overflow and collapse of the Alau Dam in Konduga Local Government Area, particularly the Medium Security Custodial Centre in the State.

Public Relations officer said this on Wednesday in a statement.
The agency denied reports that some inmates at the Custody Centres, fled from its facilities during during the overflow of water, amid panic by residents.
The statement said the NCoS is collaborating with sister agencies not limited to the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police and the Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps in providing support and assistance in due time.
Abubakar, assured that “officers and men of the NCoS Command are working around the clock to ensure a smooth and secure transfer process”.
“We appreciate the support and guidance from the Presidency and the Vice President’s visit to Maiduguri to assess the situation.
“We will continue to provide updates, and will like to assure the public that the NCoS is committed to maintaining order and ensuring public safety during this challenging time”, the NCoS said.
