Five suspected cultists arrested after attacking DPO, other victims

Five suspected cultists are in police net after attacking a team of security agents led by Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP Awoniyi Adekunle — Agbado Divisional Police officer in the line of duty in Ogun State.

The security agents were alleged attacked when they went to rescue Mr Ogwu Uzoma who is undergoing medical attention at Ayodele Hospital Matogun arising from a life threatening injury inflicted on him by the criminal gang.

A statement by the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Command in Ogun State, SP. Omolola Odutola on Wednesday, gave the names and ages of the male suspects as Adetayo Ismaila (42), Kunle Oluwole (37), Ibrahim Ademosun (31), Meshach Olaide (31), and Dare Kehinde (35) years.

SP. Odutola revealed that the quintet was arrested in Matogun Community on Wednesday August 9th 2023, based on a distress call received from a concerned citizen who narrated how the Community has been gripped by endless panic constituted by ‘the hooligans’.

The Divisional Police Officer CSP Awoniyi Adekunle Isaac together with other security Agencies, according to the statement, embarked on an aggressive raid, following the credible source that suspected cultists who have confessed to various crimes, including murder and torture of Uzoma whom they had extorted, were on the prawl.

The statement reads, “These set of cultists attacked the Divisional Police Officer and his team who went to rescue one Ogwu Uzoma “m” presently under medical attention at Ayodele Hospital Matogun that was brutally injured by the suspected cultists.

“Investigation revealed that they are members of Aiye Confraternity and have been instrumental in series of early morning attacks, waylaying persons who close from night duty on their way back home”, the statement said.

Broken bottles, cutlasses, knife were dangerous weapons and a significant amount of cannabis sativa that were recovered from suspects, according to the Police, point to the fact that “the suspects are under the influence of hard drugs”.

Accordingly, the Commissioner of Police has in the State, has ordered that they are immediately charged to Court for diligent prosecution, having been briefed about the investigation into the crime.
