Egbetokun, INTERPOL team meet over data security

 

Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun and Cyril Gout-led International Criminal Police Organization, INTERPOL team have met over data security mining, including data sharing protection and management.

Gout, is the Executive Director Police Services, according to the Nigeria Force spokesman, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi who said the move is aimed at significantly enhancing internal security and law enforcement capabilities through international partnership and collaboration.

Receiving the delegation, at the Force Headquarters Abuja on Tuesday, IGP Egbetokun, who doubles as the Chairman of the West African Chiefs of Police Committee (WAPCCO), acknowledged the significant role of INTERPOL in international cooperation, a role crucial in tackling complex challenges around the globe.

The statement said the IGP appreciated the efforts of INTERPOL and assured the delegation of full cooperation and the implementation of the WAPIS programme in Nigeria and across the West African Region.

ACP Adejobi explained that WAPIS system is strategically designed to strengthen police information systems throughout the region by harmonizing data management practices.

The statement said it also helps to bolster data collection efforts, and fostering enhanced information sharing among law enforcement agencies in West African Sub-region and Nigeria.
