Operatives of the Nigeria Police Command have arrested two male suspects over the violent sexual assault of a female teenager identified only as Favour, who was accused in a viral video of attempting to infect them with a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI).
In the viral video, the two young men took the teenager to an apartment where the young girl implored them to switch off the light before making love with her, but her request was rejected by the suspects.
Upon sensing danger, one of the young men allegedly ordered her to climb onto a bed in the apartment.
Thereafter, the suspects assaulted the teenager, forced her to take off her clothes, and exposed her nakedness while claiming a substance on her body was an STI.
The recorded video was posted on the internet, where outraged Nigerians called for the arrest and prosecution of the culprits.
The suspects had revealed their location at the Ekiadolor Community and boastfully challenged anyone interested in pursuing justice for the survivor to prepare for an attack.
Moved by the public outrage, police detectives attached to Ekiadolor Police Division in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, swung into action, tracked the location of the suspects, and arrested them.
The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the arrests while briefing the media on Thursday at the police headquarters in Benin City, the State Capital.
Eno who has yet to disclose the identity of the suspects, said, “The Command also arrested suspects linked to the stripping of a young girl and the subsequent circulation of the material on social media at the Ekiadolor axis.”
She added, “The suspects are currently in custody as investigation continues, and the Command will ensure that anyone found culpable is made to face the law.”
She cautioned members of the public to use social media responsibly and to desist from using digital platforms to humiliate, threaten, expose, or sexually violate others.
