Edo ex-LG Council boss dies at 56 after transfer

Former Head of Local Government Administration, HOLGA in Oredo Local Government Council of Edo State, Osaheni Igbinigie, is dead.

 

A source said 56-year-old Igbinigie died after attending a social event in April 2026.

 

He was redeployed from Oredo LGA to Akoko-Edo LGA by the State’s Local Government Civil Service Commission last year.

 

Investigation revealed that the former Council boss had complained of complications before he gave up the ghost.

 

Investigation also revealed that body has been deposited at an undisclosed morgue for preservation, ahead of his funeral in May.

 

In February 2025, his appointment as acting chairman of Oredo Local Government Area. This was met with, and eventually withdrawn during the period of hostility in the Council.

 

He was was widely criticized during his tenure in Oredo by stakeholders and staffers who branded him as official who attempted to supersede the elected Council.
