Diri-led Bayelsa govt silence over deputy gov’s death as PDP mourns Ewhrudjakpo

Date:

Governor Duoye Diri-led Bayelsa State government seems to have towed the path of silence, following the death of the deputy governor of Bayelsa State, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, hours after he reportedly slumped in office on Thursday and thereafter admitted at the Federal Medical Centre in the State, sparked reactions online amongst citizens.

Spokesman of Peoples Democratic Party, Ini Ememobong on Thursday evening said in a statement, the party received “with deep shock” the news of Ewhrudjakpo’s passing, which has yet-to-be announced by the State government.

60-year-old Ewhurudjakpo associate of Senator Seriake Dickson, was one of the elected officials, who insisted on remaining in the PDP and resisted the pressure from Governor Diri to join Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Ewhrudjakpo hardline posture strained his long-standing relationship that predates his 2020 joint ticket with his principal, Douye who resigned his membership from the PDP on October 15.

Though the cause of Ewhrudjakpo has neither been disclosed by the government nor his family, sources said he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at the Hospital in Yenogoa, the State Capital where he passed hours later.
