Cocoa thief shot dead in Edo, suspect arrested

Tragedy struck at the weekend in Igue village, Igarra, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area in Edo State where a farmer allegedly gun down a man, Ojo Atokubo, who was accused of stealing Cocoa farm produce.

The incident occurred on January 11th 2025 after a quarrel ensued between the alleged yet to be named murderer and the slain victim.

Pandemonium broke out over the sharing formula of their Cocoa harvest on the Cocoa plantation, leading to a fight between the former business partners.

It was learnt that the victim who was a motorcyclist, was said to have ignored previous warnings by the suspect.

The victim’s son who was a witness, escaped after his father was killed, and reported the complaint to Igarra police Division.

According to the source, “The Igue man fought Ojo and shot him dead. After the incident, Ojo’s son took to his heels and reported the incident to the police”.

Consequently, the suspect was arrested by police operatives at Igarra, while the corpse of the deceased was taken into a morgue.

It was learnt that the plantation
the late father had died when his children jointly employed the young murderer to take care of the farm so that whatever proceeds gotten shall be shared.

A source told TheNewspad that the murder suspect had persistently accused the decease
(Atokubo) of high level of distrust and before the fateful day.

The source recalled that the alleged murderer had been working on the Cocoa farm before the demise of the eldest sibling who name was given as Ade Atokubo better known as ‘mighty man’ few weeks ago.
