Christian leaders fortify Okpebholo ahead of poll

Christian leaders in Edo State have offered prayers of protection for Senator Monday Okpebholo, Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, head of September 21 State gubernatorial election.

The Cleric from various Christian denominations converged at the Baptist Conference Centre in Benin City where they intended for Okpebholo and his running mate, Hon. Dennis Idahosa.

The Christian Community and notable politicians, including Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, also endorsed Okpebholo’s Candidacy during the solemn Assembly which featured praise and worship songs.

TheNewspad recalls that the convoy of the Senator, representing Edo Central Senatorial District, was attacked by suspected political thugs on Airport Road shortly after he arrived at Benin Airport from Abuja trip with the reinstated Deputy Governor of the State, Mr Philip Shaibu who recently dumped the Peoples Democratic Party and returned to APC.

Senator Okpebholo’s orderly, Insp. Onuh Akoh from No. 45 Mobile Police in Abuja, was killed in the attack, while some persons who were caught up in the melee, sustained bullet wounds.

Police authorities in Edo State have vowed to fish out the suspects behind the fatal attack on the convoy, which the APC and Peoples Democratic Party have being trading accusation over since the incident occurred two weeks ago.
