Stakeholders and the family of an 8-month-old female child are demanding justice following the alleged defilement of the infant by her stepfather, Balarabe Adamu, in Lame, Toro Local government area of Bauchi State.
The incident occurred after the child’s mother brought her to reside at the suspect’s home.
The spokesperson for the Bauchi State Police Command, SP Nafiu Habib, confirmed the incident and the arrest of the suspect in a statement on Friday.
According to the police, a report was received on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at approximately 17:34 hours.
Operatives from the Gumau Division swiftly responded, arrested the suspect, and placed him in custody pending investigation.
The victim was immediately taken to the General Hospital in Toro for medical examination and treatment.
“In line with the Command’s mandate to protect vulnerable persons and ensure the prosecution of sexual offenders, a report was received on Wednesday 26th August, 2026 at about 1734 hours.
“Following the incident, the victim was immediately taken to General Hospital, Toro for medical examination and treatment.
“Upon receipt of the report, operatives attached to Gumau Division swiftly responded and arrested the suspect.
“He is currently in custody and undergoing investigation”, according to the police statement.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the act in the strongest terms.
He reaffirmed the command’s zero-tolerance stance on sexual violence and child abuse, assuring the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted and the suspect charged to court upon its conclusion.
He also urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to remain vigilant and report suspicious acts to the nearest police station for prompt intervention.
