Suspected bandits have invaded the Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, killing four police personnel and seven civilians.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Orchia Peter Aondongu, the armed attackers stormed the community in large numbers at about 6:12 PM on September 10, 2026.
”Regrettably, four police officers paid the supreme price in the course of defending the community during a shootout that lasted for about seven hours”, the statement read.
It also said bodies of the victims alongside the corpses of seven civilians, were later recovered during search-and-rescue operations in the surrounding bushes and deposited at a mortuary.
The police noted that tactical teams, PMF units, and conventional officers deployed to the area gallantly engaged the attackers in a sustained operation.
The security operatives successfully repelled the invasion, forcing the criminals to retreat into the forest with heavy casualties in the early hours of September 11, 2026.
The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Cletus Nwadiogbu, commended the courage and resilience of the operatives and paid tribute to the fallen officers.
He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and the Ayilamo community, assuring them of the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property.
Additional tactical units have been mobilized to reinforce security in the area by the police authority while urging residents to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative by providing timely information to assist ongoing operations, accordingly.
