There was panic when a firearm of a Guard reportedly fell to the ground and discharged, while bubbling away with a baby at Enugu State Broadcasting Service (ESBS) newsroom.
A baby whose mother, a staff of the Media Organization, had put down for his regular afternoon nap, exploded, narrowly escaped death.
But a private security guard, shot himself in the foot in the incident that occured during the routine visit by the Managing Director, Ladi Akeredolu-Ali to the broadcast station on Wednesday.
The arm bearer, according to sources was attempting to retrieve the gun when he mistakingly pulled the trigger, prompting the gun to fire and injured his own foot.
“It happened at about 3:20 pm. From what I heard, the Managing Director entered the newsroom to supervise the production of the station’s 4pm news bulletin.
‘While doing that, his security guard carried the baby of one of the editors”, a source privy to the incident said the roof of the building where the incident occurred was riddled with bullets.
It was gathered that the injured guard had been taken to a medical facility for urgent Medical attention.
Some Netizens on social Media have expressed concern over the alleged lackluster on messaging and rules governing gun handling at work place.
The Managing Director, Ladi Akeredolu-Ali, has declined comments on the incident as at the time of filing this report.
Contacted, the spokesman for the Nigeria Police Command in Enugu State, Daniel Ndukwe, said the Command, told TheNewspad that the Command is not yet aware of the incident.
