Army justify arrest of influencer over alleged incitement of soldiers

Date:

The Nigerian Army has justified the circumstances surrounding the arrest of a social media influencer, Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as Justice Crack, stating that his detention followed allegations of inciting discontent among military personnel.

In a statement issued on May 2, 2026, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, said the Army’s attention was drawn to complaints by some soldiers concerning feeding and welfare issues, which were shared on social media by the blogger.

According to the Army, the matter is currently under investigation for a possible breach of the Armed Forces’ Social Media Policy, as well as an alleged attempt to misinform the public.

Preliminary findings, the statement noted, indicate that the soldiers engaged in extensive discussions with Chidiebere, who was accused of encouraging dissatisfaction within the ranks.

The Army further alleged that one of the interactions between the blogger and the soldiers involved discussions bordering on subversion, warning that such engagements between civilians and military personnel could have serious implications for discipline and national security.

“Situations where civilians cultivate vulnerable personnel towards acts of subversion have far-reaching consequences on discipline and national security,” the statement said.

It added that Chidiebere was subsequently apprehended alongside the soldiers involved for investigation. While the soldiers remain in military custody, the blogger has been handed over to appropriate civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution, according to the statement.
