The Nigeria police Command in Anambra State has arrested a 49-year-old suspected armed robber, Chima Ogumba, and recovered a pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges from him in Idemili North Local Government Area of the State.
The suspect was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, during an intelligence-led operation along Nkpor Road in the early hours of Monday, August 17, 2026.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operatives stormed the identified area and conducted a search on Ogumba, leading to the recovery of the firearm and ammunition.
Ikenga said the suspect could not provide a satisfactory explanation for his possession of the pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges.
He said the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, had ordered a thorough investigation to establish the suspect’s possible involvement in armed robbery and other criminal activities.
The investigation will also determine the source and intended use of the recovered firearm and ammunition.
The command said the arrest formed part of its ongoing intelligence-led operations and proactive policing strategies aimed at identifying and disrupting criminal networks across the State.
