Police authorities in Abia State announced the recovery of N2 million cash sum of money, believed to be ransom payment by relatives of hostages in the ongoing onslaught against criminals in the State.
Operatives of the Command’s Intelligence Response Unit (IRU), in conjunction with other Command tactical teams, on 12th April 2025, acted on credible intelligence regarding a report received by the Command regarding a kidnapping incident that occurred at Afojide market, Isuochi area of the State where three hostages were sent free.
In a statement issued late Monday July 14th 2025, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Command in Abia State, DSP Maureen Chinaka, revealed that one red Lexus 350 Spot Utility Vehicle, three mobile phones and two leg chain shackles were also recovered and marked as exhibit by police authorities.
She explained that the hostages who were rescued at about 17:30 hours on the 12th day of July 2025 as 44-year-old Ifeanyi Nnabuife (male), 42-year-old Onyedikachi, Peter Onyegsi (male), and 26-year-old Amarachi Nwaebubu (female).
Onyegsi is of Akpou, Isuochi, Abia State, Nnabuife, hails from Anambra State while Nwaebubu is of Anambra State, according to the statement, which confirmed the arrest of some suspected kidnappers, who are undergoing interrogation in connection with the heinous crime.
“In the course of the operation, a red Lexus 350 Jeep, two million naira cash (part of the ransom payment), three mobile phones, and two leg chain shackles were recovered.
“Some kidnappers connected with the heinous crime have been apprehended and currently undergoing interrogation”, according to the statement.
It also noted that Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, assured of the Command’s unwavering commitment to making the entire Abia state safe, secure, and free from crime.
