ABUJA — Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has intensified efforts to ensure the safe return of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homes after a high-level security briefing with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting precedes the rollout of a comprehensive ₦1.5 billion relief package aimed at cushioning the effects of violent attacks on vulnerable Communities in the State.
Briefing State House Correspondents after the closed-door meeting, Governor Mutfwang stated that he updated the President on the prevailing security situation in Plateau and the continuous measures taken by his administration to consolidate peace.
He noted that President Tinubu received the development briefing with keen attention and pledged robust support for critical interventions.
Mutfwang disclosed that plans are underway to expedite the deployment of security cameras donated to the state.
To strengthen intelligence gathering, early warning systems, and rapid response capabilities, this infrastructure will integrate directly with the Plateau Security and Information Centre.
The State is set to disburse a ₦1.5 billion relief fund. This comprises a ₦1 billion intervention donated by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for victims of violent attacks, alongside a ₦500 million counterpart fund from the Plateau State Government.
Beyond immediate palliatives, the Governor emphasized his administration’s strong determination to rebuild devastated communities, paving the way for a safe, orderly, and dignified return of IDPs.
He revealed that President Tinubu expressed profound satisfaction with the administration’s transformative projects, particularly the introduction of the Metro Bus service, rail revitalisation, and strategic investments in the education and health sectors.
”Our objective is to restore livelihoods, rebuild dignity, and give affected households the means and confidence to begin again,” Mutfwang stated, that his commitment to fostering unity and shared prosperity across the state.
The Plateau State Government maintained that the synergy between federal and state authorities remains vital to restoring lasting peace and ensuring that citizens can live and work without fear.
