The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested four persons over the alleged murder of a 45-year-old man, Garba Abdullahi, who was reportedly accused of causing the illness of another man through witchcraft.
The suspects, identified as Shitu Dahiru, 25; Magaji Dahiru, 42; Sabi’u Auwalu, 20; and Abbah Abdulzahar, 19, were arrested following a report at the Gadau Divisional Police Headquarters on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, Abdullahi was allegedly attacked by the four suspects while returning home from his farm in Dunari village, Atahowa District.
The police said the suspects allegedly accused Abdullahi of being responsible for the illness of one Sawaida Dahiru before attacking him with knives and machetes.
“Upon receipt of the report, Police operatives rushed to the scene and evacuated the victim to General Hospital Azare for immediate medical attention, where he was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor,” the statement said.
The police said the victim’s remains were released to his relatives for burial, while all four suspects were arrested.
The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the “increasing cases of jungle justice and self-help” based on superstitious beliefs.
The commissioner warned that no person has the right to take another person’s life under any guise.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for further investigation and prosecution.
The command urged residents to provide the police with timely and credible information and desist from taking the law into their own hands.
