Suspected burglars have reportedly made off with a generator set and other high-tech equipment from one of the branches of Christ Embassy church in Edo State, Southern Nigeria.
According to an aggrieved church member, the midnight marauders broke into the Uwelu worship center in Egor Local Government Area on Saturday night.
While the congregation was understandably devastated, the silver lining of the heist provided a mild comedic comfort.
The hoodlums failed to locate the church’s laptop, which had been hidden away from public glare.
The member who created anonymity alleged that the stolen generator wasn’t even theirs. It had been rented.
”We were shocked when we got to church on Sunday to discover our generator is missing,” the source lamented.
“What made us sad is that the generator was hired by the management committee.
“Now we have to explain to the rental guy that the devil made us lose it.”
Despite the sudden power outage, the worship — and the service — went on as scheduled last Sunday.
The church is now looking into alternative power sources, according to the source.
