Hoodlums vandalize Tinubu posters in Benin

Date:

Hoodlums have vandalized President Bola Tinubu 2027 election posters, strategically placed around the roundabout the Benin Museum ground at the King square in Benin City, Edo State Capital

On Tuesday’s night incident occurred during a fight between some commercial bus drivers and personnel of Edo State Security Corps, who were accused of extorting money from commercial vehicles drivers after they were prevented from picking and offloading passengers at unauthorized areas around the locality.

The clash happened when the indefinite ban placed on ticketing and collection of taxes from commercial vehicles across the State by Governor Monday Okpebholo after the announcement on fuel subsidy removal by President Bola Tinubu, is still in force.

TheNewspad reports that tension escalated when some armed youths with sticks, began to chant ‘Abacrier’, a slogan associated with one of the cult groups, reportedly engaged members of the State owned security outfit in a brawl over harassment and intimidation of commercial bus drivers.

Investigation revealed that the violent altercation was said to have prompted one of the armed men identified only as Travis, to fire a gunshot into the air to scare the hoodlums who refused to bulge, away.

Trouble started when operatives to apprehend a driver behind the mini bus vehicle wheel, resulting in a struggle before a nearby street trader, slumped and was hauled to the Edo State Specialist Hospital, near the King square for urgent medical care.

But the woman who was speculated to have slumped as a result of the shock, stood up and started walking immediately, as medical workers at the emergency section of the hospital watched the drama in disbelief.

The security personnel thereafter took to flight when they discovered that a woman was lying motionless on the road.

A shocking footage of the hospital where the woman, suddenly regained her consciousness and walked away from the hospital where she was early admitted, has been released by the Edo State Security Corps.

Dismissing the false alarm earlier raised by a United Kingdom-based Nigerian Blogger, Albert Obazee, the acting Commander of Edo State Security Corps, Balogun Richard said the case is under investigation.

Richard who on live programme Radio monitored by TheNewspad media, Thursday morning revealed that his attention was drawn to the incident, same day.

He added: “initially, one account alleged that somebody was shot by a vigilante, another account said was knocked down by a moving vehicle”.

“The button line is that when we got there (scene), the woman was taken to hospital where it was discovered that the woman whom the Blogger said was shot dead by vigilantes, moved all by herself.

“We have the video of how she moved out of the hospital bed on her own. You know sometimes, people will just blow things out of proportion. But that does not mean that we will not investigate what actually happened.

“The truth is that some drivers just think that obey the law. They will just block the road as if there is no law in Edo State”, Richard said.
