How handwritten note led to arrest 3 suspects behind murder of ex-Broadcaster, guard

Date:

The Nigeria police Command in Ogun State has arrested three suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of a former Broadcaster, Olakitan Oyesiku with Ogun Television station, (OGTV), and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.

The arrest followed an “intensive investigation” that combined intelligence gathering, technical tracking and forensic analysis of the handwritten note, resulting in the arrest of the criminal suspects.

Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, disclosed this during a press briefing held on Thursday at the Command Headquarters at Eleweran in Abeokuta.

He explained that a major breakthrough in the investigation came from a handwritten note allegedly left behind by the perpetrators at the crime scene.

Consequently, the note was subjected to forensic examination, which generated vital leads that assisted detectives in identifying and tracking down the suspects, according to the police commissioner, in connection with the incident that came to light on June 21, 2026.

The Commissioner said police operatives swift into action when a report was received at the Owode-Egba Police Station concerning suspicious circumstances at Oyesiku’s residence.

He explained that officers who responded to the scene discovered signs of forced entry, with the front door of the house partially damaged.

“Upon gaining access to the premises, detectives found the lifeless body of the security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, inside the security house, while Madam Oyesiku was found dead in a pool of blood in the living room of the main building.

Ojajuni stated that preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 SUV was missing from the compound, prompting detectives to commence an intensive investigation into a suspected case of robbery and double murder.

The police boss explained that through intelligence-led operations and technical tracking, operatives recovered the stolen vehicle on June 22.

Although the suspects had removed the ignition key and detached the vehicle’s number plates, detectives reportedly found the registration plate hidden beneath one of the seats, enabling investigators to confirm ownership of the vehicle.

The police subsequently arrested the principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22, on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer.

Further operations led to the arrest of two other suspects identified as Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer.

According to the commissioner, the principal suspect confessed to participating in the crime and admitted recruiting the two other suspects to assist him.

Police said Philip told investigators that he orchestrated the attack because of grievances he allegedly harboured against Madam Oyesiku from the period he worked as a security guard in her employment.

“The suspect stated that the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku was intended to teach her a lesson,” Ojajuni said.

Investigators further revealed that the suspects allegedly carried out the attack on June 20 after overpowering the security guard and using him to gain access to the residence.

They reportedly attacked Madam Oyesiku before later killing the security guard and fleeing with the victim’s vehicle.

The stolen Lexus SUV was later recovered at the Onikolobo area of Ogun State through intelligence and technical tracking operations.

Following the suspects’ confessional statements, detectives conducted searches at locations linked to them and recovered several exhibits, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, a black pen and other items considered relevant to the investigation.

While confirming that substantial evidence had been obtained, the police commissioner stressed that the suspects remain entitled to due process under the law.

He explained that investigations are ongoing to consolidate available evidence and ensure the diligent prosecution of all persons connected with the crime.

Ojajuni reaffirmed the commitment of the police Command to securing justice for the victims and ensuring that all those involved in the killings are brought to account.
