‘Aza’ woman risks arrest over false kidnapping claim in Edo school

The Nigeria police Command in Edo State has intensified effort towards the arrest a female resident of Edo State, identified only as ‘Aza woman behind the alleged false, misleading and unfounded report that some students of Green Park Academy, Aduwawa, Benin had been kidnapped.

 

The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem disclosed this on Wednesday in a statement, stated that the false narrative generated unnecessary concern among members of the public after the social media report.

 

Ikoedem revealed that police have commenced steps to apprehend the originator of the false report involving students abduction for questioning and possible prosecution in accordance with extant laws accordingly.

 

She said police arrived at the decision followed a thorough verification and preliminary investigation by the Command, it has been established that no kidnapping incident occurred at the school as purported by the narrator in the internet.

 

“Findings reveal that the report is entirely false, lacks any factual basis, and was deliberately disseminated to misinform the public and create unwarranted panic within the State.

 

The Command therefore urges members of the public to exercise restraint and responsibility in their use of social media by verifying information through credible and official sources before sharing same.

 

The statement also also encouraged to report security-related concerns through appropriate channels to enable prompt verification and response by law enforcement agencies.

 

It further said the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, reassured residents that the security situation in the State remains under control and that the Command is committed to safeguarding lives and property.
