Aminu Abdussalam, deputy Governor of Kano State, has resigned from his position, marking the end of a new era in his political career.
This followed a Federal High Court sitting in Kano ruling on Wednesday which declined an application by Abdussalam seeking to halt the process, shortly after the State House of Assembly had initiated impeachment proceedings against him.
Habibu Sale Mohammed, spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement made the disclosure in a statement on Friday.
The group explained that the resignation does not amount to an admission of the allegations raised against him by the state Assembly”, he said.
“For the avoidance of doubt, this resignation does not in any way constitute an admission of the allegations raised against him by the Kano State House of Assembly.
The statement said the decision by the deputy Governor was described as difficult, but taken in the overall interest of the people and the stability of governance of Kano.
It maintains his innocence and firmly believes that his records in office and public service remain a testament to his integrity and commitment to the people,” it according to the Press statement.

“The Kwankwasiyya Movement wishes to formally inform the general public, the good people of Kano State, and the entire nation that the Deputy Governor of Kano State has tendered his resignation from office,” the statement said.
It further recalled, “recent circumstances have, to a considerable extent, constrained the full realization of the benefits and responsibilities attached to the office of the Deputy Governor.
“In view of this, it has become imperative to allow the office to function optimally in the best interest of the public it is meant to serve,” the statement said.
