Niger teenager shoots friend dead with father’s dane gun at playground

Police have taken a local vigilante, Danladi Baba into custody over allegations of negligence, arising from reckless handling of a firearm and culpable homicide in Niger State.

This was after his son, Emmanuel Danladi reportedly gunned down his friend, Titus Joseph, with his dane gun at their family playground.

Tragedy stuck when Emmanuel picked up a loaded dane gun belonging to his father, Danladi Baba, serves with a local vigilante group on 1st March 2026 in Kwamba community, Suleja Local Government Area.

Spokesman of the Nigeria police Command in Niger State, Wasi’u Abiodun, Emmanuel confirmed the incident to newsmen at the weekend in Minna, Niger State Capital.

He revealed that his son who is the 16-year-old prime suspect was also arrested and taken into police custody by the police in connection with the alleged murder.

This was after police operatives from the Maje Division, responded swiftly after the incident was reported, and evacuated the 16-year-old victim to the General Hospital in Suleja, where he was later confirmed dead.

The police image maker disclosed that the firearm used in the shooting has also been recovered as evidence, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID in Minna, for further investigation and prosecution of the murder suspects.
