Police recover bodies of officers shot dead at checkpoint in Enugu

Police authorities have recovered bodies of two officers who were shot dead at a security checkpoint on Thursday night in Enugu State.

The wave of attacks on security formations occurred around the Police College area along Agbani Road in the Enugu metropolis, setting an operational vehicle ablaze.

But a Lexus 330 Spot Utility Vehicle, SUV that was snatched for the operation and riddled with bullet holes from the exchange of gunfire, was also recovered by police personnel who responded swiftly to the assailants at the scene.

The police spokesman said the victims of attack were confirmed dead at undisclosed hospital before receiving medical attention.

In the meantime, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Bitrus Giwa, has directed an intensive manhunt and deployment of operatives with actionable intelligence to track down and arrest the fleeing assailants.
