Two police officers identified as Inspector Nosa Onaghise and France Oyakhire have been detained without charge on orders of a female Commissioner of Police serving in Nigeria.
The Cops were accused of attempting to flout the orders of the unnamed senior police officer to release arrested criminal suspect arrested at the Iyekogba Area Police Command in Edo State.
Trouble started on the 29th day of December, 2025 when officers attached to the Iyekogba Area Command received intelligence report of a suspected cultist who have been alleged to be terrorising some parts of Benin Metropolis.
The criminal suspect, according police sources, was intercepted on a bike and taken into custody for interrogation. Upon profiling the suspect confessed to belonging to a cult group and evidences obtained.
While the investigation was ongoing, the suspect allegedly made a phone call to a Commissioner of Police, who became furious that the suspect was arrested by the police as the commissioner of police had sent him to do plumbing job at her house in Benin City.
The detention of the suspected cultist, didn’t sit well with the commissioner of police who immediately ordered the detention of the police officers doing their legitimate duty.
It was also reported that the investigation file is currently with a Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations at the State Command.
Knocks and condemnation are trailing the alleged detention orders, amid conflict of interest amongst the ranks of the Police Force, seems to have weaken crime fighting power of Police operatives in the State.
Contacted, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Command in the State, ASP Eno Ikoedem, has yet-to-reply inquires from TheNewspad, 72 hours after the incident was reported by some me Benin-based Human Rights activists on social and mainstream media.
