Two kidnappers gun down as police rescue hostage in Ogun

Date:

Nigeria police operatives have gun down two two suspected kidnappers in the Onipanu area of Ogun State where a hostage was rescued.

The hoodlums met their waterloo during a shoot during a raid of creek used as hideouts by the suspected kidnappers.

The incident occurred on October 27, 2025, around 8:14 p.m., when five armed men invaded the compound of one Alhaji Baki Hassan Atoyebi.

Spokesperson for the police Command in the State, CSP Omolola Odutola said in a statement that the assailants reportedly switched off the generator in the compound to lure the occupants outside.

Unaware of the danger, Alhaji Atoyebi and another resident stepped out to inspect the fault but were ambushed by the gunmen, who abducted him.

The kidnappers also made away with a POS machine, ₦900,000 in cash, three mobile phones, a power bank, and keys to a Highlander and a Corolla vehicle.

A few hours later, the abductors contacted the victim’s family using his phone, demanding ₦30 million as ransom.

Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, mobilized a joint tactical team comprising operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Anti-Crime Section, Surveillance Team, Vigilante Group, So-Safe Corps, and local hunters.

The operatives stormed the kidnappers’ hideout along the creek, where two of the suspects were neutralized while others escaped with gunshot injuries.

The victim was rescued unharmed and reunited with his family, while his phones and vehicle keys were recovered from the scene.

The Commissioner of Police commended the gallantry and synergy displayed by the security teams, assuring residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to public safety.

He further warned that Ogun State would remain unsafe for criminal elements.
