The reinstated former deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has dragged the State government before the National Industrial court of Nigeria, Abuja, demanding payment of over N5.85bn outstanding withheld allowances and entitlements by Godwin Obaseki’s administration.

Shaibu, the court of Appeal, Abuja Division, affirmed the judgement of the lower court that reinstated him as then deputy Governor of Edo State in the wake of the hostility between him and then Governor Godwin Obaseki.
The appellate court accordingly dismissed the appeal, seeking to oppose his impeachment on April 8, 2024 by the State House of Assembly, which earlier adopted the Report of a 7-man Committee set up by the State Chief Judge to investigate allegations of misconduct levelled against him by the Legislative Arm.
Governor of the State Monday Okpebholo and the State House of Assembly and are amongst the respondents in the petition by the Claimant who is amongst others, seeking ₦1.9 billion in security votes of ₦1.5 billion for 3 armored Toyota Land Cruisers worth in addition to ₦1.5 billion for 3 official Toyota Hilux trucks.
Other Respondents listed in the suit marked:
AUCN/ABJ/133/2025, include the former Governor of the State, Godwin Obaseki, Edo State Attorney-General, the State Commissioner for Finance, the State’s Auditor-General and the Accountant-General.
