Edo road crash kills four in front of mortuary

Four passengers, including a toddler have been reportedly killed in a road crash in front of God’s Care mortuary, Ekehuan road in Benin.

Last Friday night accident occurred when a commercial bus driver that began his journey from Siluko road, crashed into a stationary refuse truck in front of the mortuary before Conoil Petrol station.

Sources said two female tomatoes and pepper sellers who returning home from market are among the dead in the accident that happened about 9:30p.m.

The truck was said to have been abandoned by yet to be identified driver on the road without any caution sign for four days before the tragedy.

A passenger who narrowly missed boarding the ill-fated bus told TheNewspad that Bystanders who rushed to the accident scene to assist the accident victims, retreated over fear of been arrested to made statement by security agents having discovered that two of the passengers died immediately on bus.

Poor visibility on the road might have contributed to the loss of lives, according to the witness also revealed that that “a little child who was found on the tarred road, was flung out of the vehicle when the accident happened”.

The terrified witness said he flagged down to board the bus at Ehaekpen junction on Ekehuan road.

He said he declined when a driver of the vehicle told him that he will disembark at the popular Leaders junction.

He said, “I insisted that I won’t join the bus because I may not get another vehicle to transit to my final destination”.

He also said barely few minutes after he failed the vehicle and transit, one of his neighbours who sighted by the road, stopped and picked him.

Few minutes after they began their journey, they saw a group of persons wailing.

“My neighbour slowed down and suddenly, we saw dead bodies.

“Sadly, it was an accident involving the vehicle I wanted to board to my destination, had crashed on a stationary refuse truck.

“Bystanders who were at the scene of the accident said they were afraid to assist the accident victims.
Let them wait for Police to take them to mortuary”, he said.

“They became scared to assist the accident victims. Let them wait for Police to take them to mortuary”, another witness revealed that one of the victims’ breast were pulled off”.

The stationary truck at the spot since the past four days, was removed from the road few minutes after the crash.

TheNewspad investigation revealed that the stationary truck and the ill-fated bus were removed from the road barely few hours after the accident.
