20 corpses have been recovered from the capsized wooden boat mishap in Agatu Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State where an unspecified number of passengers in the boat are yet unaccounted for.
Recall that the ill-fated boat was ferrying traders across the river to Odenyi in Nasarawa State, capsized after colliding with a tree midway through the aborted journey, according to reports.
Spokesperson for the Command in the State, SP Catherine Anene gave the update late Sunday in a terse statement in the ongoing rescue operation.
SP Anene said, “The incident of boat mishap at Agatu is confirmed and rescue operation is ongoing. 11 persons were rescued alive, while 20 corpses have been recovered. The rescue operation is ongoing”.
