Unemployed indigenes:Businesses risk closure

The Akwa Ibom State government has threatened to tough measures against businesses owners in the State that fail to employ indigenes of the State, following the launch of portal for unemployed youths by Governor Umo Eno.

The Governor issued the threat on Monday at the launch of the website where dedicated to job opportunities from private and public sectors announcement.

He urged business owners in the State to utilize the channel and directed the State Ministry of Labour and Economic Planning to work closely with other Stakeholders for effective utilization of the economic initiative.

Eno said, “The time to ensure that we get our people employed is now. Let no one test our resolve.

“If we find out that you (businesses) are operating here (Akwa Ibom) and you are not recruiting from here, we will do everything to shut your down.

“With great joy, sense of fulfillment to have launched this Arise employment portal. And I dedicate to the youth of Akwa Ibom State who have shown great fidelity and understanding with us”, Governor Umo said.

Consequently, the Governor also assured that the State inter Labour Committee vested with the responsibility of ensuring transparency and fairness in the employment would interface with stakeholders for result.
