Ahead of November 12th 2024 handing over date by the current administration, the reinstated Edo State deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu on Sunday advised elected leaders aiming digs at traditional institution to be wary of their actions and retrace their steps, saying power is indeed transient.
He gave the advice while delivering an emotional speech at Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, Oba of Benin 8th commemorative service on the throne of his forebears at the Holy Aruosa church in Benin.
Shaibu also advised the Edo State Governor elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo against choosing the path of perfidy after his swearing-in on November 12, 2024, urging him to work in harmony with the traditional institution.
He also advised Okpebholo not to ride roughshod on sacred ground, but learn from the unforgettable memories in the outgoing administration failed to address in order to succeed.
According to him, “why I need to speak from the heart is that there are lessons that need to be learnt any day. I will start with just one. By November 11th midnight in this year, I will be former deputy Governor.
“And eight years ago, after the Coronation of our Royal Majesty, we were sworn-in. So, the deputy Governor is going, but our Oba remains. It is a lesson to all of us.
“You can never know, no matter how highly placed you are; Don’t try to tamper or adjust anything or do anything to the traditional institution.
“Not even the Oba of Benin. All of us, not just me, we are very proud of us when we go out there.
There are two Kingdoms in the world. Benin Kingdom and others. But when we want to help them to adjust, we tell them Benin Kingdom and the United Kingdom. And that is the truth.
“Philip Shaibu and others will be former by November 12th. Our Oba remains. It’s a lesson to all of us. And also the incoming Governor; My brother and Oba son, Senator Monday Okpebholo. I also want to pass this message to him”, Shaibu said.
He further promised to engage the next administration to tackle issues that their administration failed to address and continually defend Edo heritage.
The reinstated deputy Governor who congratulated the Oba on the milestones, urged the first Class traditional ruler not to relent in his prayers for better the people and Edo State.
In his homily, the presiding Priest of Holy Aruosa Cathedral also known as Edo national church, Ohen-Osa Edebiri Igbinoghodua, highlighted several milestones recorded during the reign of Oba Ewuare and called for unity of Edo people at hime and diaspora.
Highpoint was the special thanksgiving by Oba Ewuare II who was joined by his Queens and his children as well as prominent Nigerians.
