Reactions are trailing the construction of 40 housing units for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) judges and justices in addition to 300 per cent salary increase for all Nigeria judges and justices.
President Bola Tinubu gave the directive to the FCT, through the FCDA, to immediately construct 40 numbered judges and justices quarters at Katampe district in FCT, arising from complaints that judges and justices will be living in rented houses and hotels, that is not safe for our judicial officials.
The houses would be construction at the Kantampe district, with 20 allocated to the FCT high court, 10 to the federal high court and 10 to the court of appeal, Nyesom Wike, FCT Minister said on Monday September 23.
Some netizens have described the move as misplaced by the government in view of the rising number of Nigerians who were displaced the recent flood that ravaged Communities in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Commenting on the government gesture, an X (formerly known as Twitter) user, Oba, said, “increasing judges salaries by 300 per cent, that is good. But, hope it’s not not to twist the hands of judges”.
Another X user, Glorious_Official77 said, “I don’t think APC is ready to leave this Presidency for the next 50 years.
In his reply to Glorious_Official77, Mikestan52 wrote: “Jagaban for reason, what money cannot do, more money will do it. Judges now on bag. 2027 too sure, I beg”, he said.
