Okpebholo wins Edo guber poll with 44,393 votes  …Obaseki cries foul

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) h winner of the Saturday September 21st 2024 governorship election in Edo State and returned him Governor-elect.

INEC Returning officer for the election, Prof. Farouq Adamu-Kuta, declared him winner at 9: 29p.m on Sunday with 291,667 the highest valid votes cast at the poll.

Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Asue Ighodalo trailed behind Okpebholo with 247,274 votes in the election where Labour Party Candidate, Olumide Akpata polled 22,766 valid votes.

Okpebholo APC won 11 LGAs while Ighodalo’s PDP won in seven LGAs while LP and 15 other political parties lost their LGAs and failed to secure a win in any wards and LGA.

Declaring Okpebholo, the Returning officer for the election, said, “That Okpebholo Monday of APC having satisfied the requirements of the law, he is hereby declared the winner and he is returned elected”.

The outgoing Governor Of Godwin Obaseki in a broadcast, has described the election, which was largely peaceful as a tragedy and travesty.

He urged PDP members and supporters across the State to remain calm.

TheNewspad reports that the PDP has rejected the INEC results declared due to alleged irregularities and delay in releasing the results.
