APC chair, Obaseki’s aide trade insult in INEC office

The chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Jarret Tenebe and Osaigbovo Iyoha on Sunday, engaged each other in heated rhetoric and name-calling at the collation centre for Saturday governorship election in Edo State.

The insult started after Osaigbovo Iyoha, who is the Returning officer to Peoples Democratic Party blatantly accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) and INEC of complicity.

Iyoha, had accused the electoral umpire and APC of colluding to manufacture figures to justify election results released by INEC Returning officer in Oredo Local government where APC polled 30,750 votes while its closest rival secured 24,939 votes.

Again, the PDP Returning agent for the election demanded for explanation. “How will APC get this kind of votes Benin City.

“This is disgraceful and shameful. Is this the kind of democracy that we are going to beqeth to our own Children?”.

In his reply, the APC chairman, Tenebe, who is returning agent for the his party, slammed Iyoha for throwing jibe at APC over his outburst, and called for Iyoha’s arrest.

He alleged that Osaigbovo Iyoha who introduced himself as Tony Iyoha, had been wanted persons by the police in connection with the alleged murder of Inspector Onu Akor, who was shot dead near Benin Airport exit gate by suspected political thugs on July 18th 2024.

Tenebe alleged that “This agent, has been in hiding in a bid to evade police arrest, following ongoing Airport Road shooting investigation

“Police should come and arrest him. This man has been declared wanted for the murder of our police. He is here now, police should arrest him”, he alleged.

Iyoha however chuckled momentarily after Tenebe’s unsavory remarks against him, saying, “If they fly low, we fly high”.

But the INEC Returning officer for the election, Prof. Farouq Adamu-Kuta, interjected and kicked against attempts by the duo to turned to turn the arena into odium to distract their attention.

Prof. Farouq therefore stand down the collation of the election results for Oredo and Ikpoba-Okha to 5p.m on Sunday, which were declared in favour of APC and PDP respectively.
