In today’s rapidly changing and fast-evolving digital landscape, especially in a developing nation like Nigeria, there is a growing demand for skilled ICT developers who can significantly contribute to the development of the country’s digital technology industry.
As a passionate mentor to young Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) and Symfony framework developers on the Vision 100K Coders platform, I’ve had the privilege of guiding talented, aspiring developers who are eager to build impactful software solutions, not just for Nigeria’s tech sector, but for the global stage as well.
As a mentor in the Vision 100K Coders initiative, my responsibilities go far beyond simply teaching the concepts of software engineering, PHP programming, and the Symfony framework.
My role also involves nurturing problem solving skills and fostering creativity. Classes are conducted live, and every question from aspiring developers is addressed with the goal of providing clear and thorough explanations.
The Vision 100K Coders initiative is a free platform specifically dedicated to equipping aspiring developers with practical coding knowledge, mentorship, and hands-on experience needed to thrive in the software development industry.
Unlike many platforms that rely on pre-recorded tutorials, Vision 100K understands that developers require real-time engagement to address their questions, ensuring a smoother learning curve.
Through our live class sessions, group discussions, and project-based learning, the initiative is helping young developers grow not only as programmers, but also as professional software engineers, equipped with the collaboration skills needed to excel in today’s tech world.
As a mentor in Vision 100K Coders, I have worked with promising individuals who have shown remarkable dedication and passion for learning software engineering. These aspiring developers come from diverse backgrounds and are eager to leverage the power of the Symfony framework to build scalable and efficient web applications or what is described as (Software as a Solution).
The experience of walking them through complex programming data structures and assisting them with debugging has been both challenging and incredibly rewarding.
Witnessing the growth of these developers from writing their first lines of code to contributing valuable ideas to Vision 100K’s open-source projects has been truly fulfilling.
Vision 100K is not just a platform for mentorship; it is a community focused on creating real world software solutions.
One of the key projects we are working on is the open-source development of a Student Management System for secondary schools in Nigeria. This project gives Vision 100K developers the opportunity to apply their programming knowledge to solve real world problems.
Through this initiative, Vision 100K developers will not only deepen their understanding of programming concepts, but also collaborate with one another to address a critical challenge faced by Nigerian secondary schools via managing student data and academic performance reporting.
By involving our passionate and aspiring developers in this open-source project, Vision 100K provides them with practical experience in working on a large-scale initiative. These developers contribute to coding, design, testing, and deployment, ensuring that the system is both efficient and user-friendly.
The open-source project has the potential to revolutionize the way secondary schools in Nigeria operate, especially in underserved areas, where the open source project can simplify tasks such as student enrolment and academic report generation.
Ultimately, the project is committed to benefiting the Nigerian society by improving the efficiency of the educational processes.
The collaborative nature of the Vision 100K platform ensures that aspiring developers do not work in isolation. We emphasize the importance of teamwork and peer learning, allowing developers to engage with one another, share knowledge, and collaborate.
The collaboration fosters a strong sense of community among young developers and helps them build networks that will benefit them throughout their careers.
Vision 100K teaches more than just programming, we emphasize the entire software development process, which includes communication skills, collaboration and stakeholder requirement gathering.
The initiative which focuses on open-source development instils into our passionate developers, the value of giving back to the tech community.
In addition, we emphasize that contributing to open-source projects is a valuable way for developers to showcase their skills, build their portfolios, and gain recognition within the global tech community.
Through the Vision 100K Coders initiative, we are empowering a new generation of Symfony developers, providing them with mentorship and real-world project experience.
It is not only nurturing the technical skills of aspiring developers, but also building a sense of collaboration within the tech space to solve real-world problems using software engineering.
The open-source Student Management System is just an example of how our aspiring developers, with the right guidance and mentorship, can contribute to transforming Nigeria’s education sector through software development.
As a mentor, it is deeply fulfilling to be part of this journey, watching these developers grow into confident professionals who are capable of making a lasting impact on the tech industry and building successful start-ups.
By January 2025, Vision 100K Coders will open registration for its second batch of aspiring developers. With this initiative, the future of software development for young and aspiring developers looks bright as we continue to nurture talent and inspire innovation across the digital technology sector.
Something that should interest all aspiring talents, is that for all that these trainings offer it is offered free of charge.
So, if you want to get involved in the next cohort, the link to register is https://www.visionlookcoders.org/register.The first batch of registration has closed. We reopen for the second batch in January 2025.
