The Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party in Saturday September 21st Edo State governorship election, Asue Ighodalo says nearly each of all the Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) signed by Governor Godwin Obaseki on office, ‘ended up in consequential transactions’.
TheNewspad recalls that some members of the main opposition party that tagging Obaseki MoU Governor and accused him of rolling back the development of the State with his signature skills.
Speaking in an interview on Monday September 15th 2024 Channels Television, Ighodalo berated Obaseki’s critics and classified them as myopic and uneducated politicians who cannot prepare a balance sheet or understand the basic component in business.
He offered explanation, why MoUs are important in businesses between/among multi lateral, national and sub-national governments and offered insight on how it impact outcomes and drive performance.
Ighodalo said, “All the MoUs Governor Obaseki has signed, nearly each of them has ended up in consequential transactions; competent and complete transactions.
“So, people should stop been myopic. Calling Obaseki MoU Governor is political opponent induced way of thinking. People that do not understand how economic development works, people that cannot carry a balance sheet, people that didn’t go to school are not tackling people that are going through effective process”, Ighodalo said.
He stated that Edo people in future would remember Governor Obaseki for leaving a worthy legacy behind, assuring that if elected as Governor
The PDP Candidate, promised to provide 50,000 jobs yearly from tourism services, Technology, Agriculture and manufacturing as well as build on “good policies of Obaseki, and tweak some” and improve on others if elected Governor.
Responding to claims that the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nysom Wike has abandoned him and Governor Obaseki after the table of reconciliation in the umbrella party collapsed, Ighodalo, admitted the claims by jokes’ merchants in the affirmative.
“It’s correct that Wike said he was not going to support us. But, events may have overtaken this decision at that point. I believe as a gentleman, he will adhere to his words that he gave me.
“If he has not changed his mind, so be it. But the decision of who becomes the next Governor of Edo State will be determined by Edo people. Nobody else. I fear nobody, but God Almighty”, he said.
He also stated that virtually all conditions that he and (PDP) as conditions to signing the Peace Accord have been meant except the unlawful detention of their supporters by the police, clarifying however that the election is not do-or-die.
He assured that he and PDP will sing when those arrested are either granted bail or arraigned, defended in court before they will put their signatures to paper.
He further hinted that he will conceded defeat of he loses fairly under a level playing field which must be provided the electoral umpire and other Stakeholders.
According to him, “We are not purveyors of violence. We preach peace and non-violence. For us it’s do, not do-or-die”.
