A suspected thief, Hassan Garba has been hacked to death by
a tea vendor for allegedly stealing a packet of noodle and bread from his outlet Sararai village, Jigawar Tsada town, Dutse Local Government Council of Jigawa State.
Daily Trust reported that Abdulrashibu Ya’u, allegedly descended on Garba whom he accused of stealing bread, milk, noodles, and petrol.
Spokesman for the Nigeria Police Command in Jigawa State, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam said
in connection with the death of the victim who was said to be 20-year-old who was tied to a stick by Ya’u with a rope and beat him with a stick in a fit of rage before he died.
“Upon receiving the report, the police delegated a team to the scene and arrested the suspect, while the victim was rushed to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival, according to police report on the incident.
DSP Shiisu the murder suspect had been questioning at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse, where Ya’u admitted to the crime.
Ya’u, according to the police spokesman, had Garba had repeated thefts had angered him, and he had previously informed his parents, but no action was taken before tragedy stuck.
DSP Shiisu also said helpless neighbours who heard Garba’s cries for help were unable to intervene until police officers arrived the scene.
“Following a thorough investigation, Ya’u will be arraigned in court to face the full weight of the law”, DSP Shiisu said.
