‘Cultist’ dies after losing hand in machete fight

A suspected cultist whose left hand was reportedly cut off during a fight between two rival cult groups on Sunday August 11th 2024 on Ijagun Road, in Ijebu Ode Ogun State.

Police said the victim who died in the frontline of the battle, also known as “Mosquito,” was identified as a member of the Aye confraternity.

Spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Command in Ogun State, SP Omolola Odutola disclosed this on Monday in a statement.

The incident came to light after a concerned citizen through a phone call reported that cultists were involved in a brawl about 2340hrs of 11th August. 2024.

The hoodlums, left with his left hand, which had been severed, removed and taken away.

“Upon receiving the information, the Divisional Police Officer quickly dispatched a team of officers to the scene.

“On arrival, and after a careful examination, the Divisional Police Officer discovered the body of an unidentified middle-aged man with machete wounds and gunshot injuries”, the statement said.

It also said police evacuated the victim to Ijebu Ode State Hospital where he was pronounced dead and placed in the morgue.

SP Omolola assured that efforts being made to apprehend the suspects who fled the scene and unravel the pattern of cutting off left hand from deceased victims.

She said six expended cartridges found at the scene had been recovered at the crime scene while investigation is ongoing.
