Rescue protests from hijack, IGP tells officers

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has directed personnel of the Force to rescue Thursday August 1st 2024 nationwide protests from been hijacked by hoodlums and cause violence.

In a statement, the Force Public Relations officer, Force Headquarters, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi
said IGP Egbetokun gave the directive during virtual conference with Senior Police Officers from across the Country, ahead of the commencement date of #EndBadGovernance protests on Wednesday 31st July, 2024.

The IGP tasked police personnel on alertness, professionalism, and focus on critical issues of preparedness for the protesters under the group known as Take-it-back Movement.

The police boss also task officers on deployment, maintenance of law and order during the protest across the Federation with extreme vigilance.

The IGP’ further directed that proactive measures must be emplaced to ensure that peaceful protests do not turn into violent confrontations, as Nigeria cannot afford to record any violence in this period.

“While peaceful demonstrations are a democratic right, the IGP’ stated that the police must be vigilant to prevent any group from hijacking such events to incite violence”.

The IGP’ further directed that proactive measures must be emplaced to ensure that peaceful protests do not turn into violent confrontations, as Nigeria cannot afford to record any violence in this period.
