UNIBEN stakeholders meet, plan reopening

University of Benin (UNIBEN) Stakeholders will on Wednesday July 24th 2024 meet to discuss series of agitations/protests, which led to indefinite closure of the University for academic activities on 4th July, 2024.

UNIBEN’s Registrar, Mr Ademola Bobola said on Monday July 22nd in a statement issued on behalf of the Vice Chancellor the University, Prof. Lilian Salami said the meeting is slated for 2: P.M at the Senate Chamber of the institution.

The meeting would provide opportunity for the institution to engage in wider consultations with major stakeholders in the University to address these issues amicably, for possible reopening of the University and forestall future occurrence.

UNIBEN students, Representatives of each Faculty, Directors Chairman and members of Cult Renunciation, Reconciliation Reformation and Rehabilitation, ASUU SSANU and NAAT as well as NANS are invited to the meeting along with the Media.

The statement said, “However, the University Management in tandem with the Council has taken necessary actions to appropriately address the issues that led to the protest arising from power rationing.

“Therefore, in taking a decision concerning the reopening of the University, the Management has considered it appropriate to engage in wider consultations with major Stakeholders in the University in order to address these issues amicably and forestall future occurrence.

“In view of the above,and in consonance with the directive of the Vice Chancellor, I write to convey to you invitation to attend a Stakeholders’ meeting”, Bobola said.
