Shaibu asks IGP to ban Edo VGN, PUWOV

Reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mr Philip Shaibu has asked the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun to ban activities of Edo State Vigilante Network (VGN) and the Public Works Volunteer (PUWOV), accusing some members of the groups of murder in the State.

The accusation followed the attack on Shaibu’s convoy and Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 21st 2024 Edo State governorship election, Senator Monday Okpebholo’s convoy near Benin Airport exit gate last last week Thursday, by political thugs, resulting in the murder of police Cop, Insp. Onuh Akoh.

Shaibu who spoke to journalists at the sidelines of Sunday Thanksgiving service on his recent victory at the Federal High Court, Abuja judgement that voided his impeachment by the State House of Assembly and reinstated him to his office, linked prominent members of Edo VGN and PUWOV in the fatal attack.

He appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the Nigeria Police High Command to investigate the murder of the Cop and sanction culprits aided by some highly placed individuals in the State, trying to exonerate themselves from the allegations.

Shaibu said, “They know what they have done. They are trying to cover up. They can’t cover it; Not even when a police officer was a victim of the attack. All of them must be picked. The police must do its work.

“Men of the vigilante and PUWOV in Edo State orchestrated it. The IGP will definitely go into it.
“They are struggling to see how they can rob people into the scandal.

“But, they robe anybody in. And I am urging the President and the IGP to set up an inquiry, not only to arrest and prosecute, but proscribe vigilante and PUWOV in Edo State”, Shaibu said.

Shaibu also appealed Nigeria youths not allow themselves to be used as agents of destabilization in the Country, urging them to remain consistent in their positive adventure and vote out incompetent leaders in Government.

He further appreciated his family, friends, the Catholic Community, political associates, appointees/aides, followers, and supporters who stood by him in difficult moments.

“I want the youths to know that you can be who you want to be only to the extent if you are consistent. And you must do what is right at all time.

“If anybody comes to you to disrupt this democracy, they want to disrupt your future. You must stand your guard to make sure that democracy succeed.

“If you vote them (politicians) in and they are not doing well, then, vote them out.

“But, do not go to the street, to disrupt the peace, and if there is war, you and I will be the victim”, he advised.

TheNewspad recalls that the State Government, called for Shaibu’s arrest and prosecution of criminal suspects linked to mayhem, which left an unspecified number of persons wounded.

The Government had in a petition to police authorities, accused Shaibu of causing violence in Edo State by resorting to self-help in enforcing a federal High Court judgement, challenging his impeachment by the State House of Assembly, which had filed a notice of stay Execution of the judgement filed at the Appeal Court against the declaration of the Court of first instance.
