CP: Thugs from nowhere killed Okpebholo’s orderly

The Commissioner of Police in Edo State Command, CP. Funsho Adegboye says some hoodlums suspected to be political thugs emerged from nowhere with guns and other dangerous weapons, were responsible for the shooting that led to the death of a police Inspector, Insp Onuh Akoh attacked to the Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for September 21 Edo State Governorship election, Senator Monday Okpebholo’s convoy on Thursday.

The Public Relations officer of the Nigeria Police Command in Edo State, SP. Chidi Nwabuzor, said this in a condolence message to the deceased family and the Police Force issued on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun on Frida.

He explained that Insp Onuh Akoh, a personnel of No. 45 Police Mobile Force Abuja, was caught up in the sporadic gunshots melee that eclipsed the arrival of Mr Philip Shuaibu who was reinstated by orders of Court in Abuja, and Sen. Monday Okpebholo arrival at Benin Airport from the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, where their supporters in thousands rally them, resulted in tragedy.

The statement however assured that police have commenced investigation into the dastardly act and promised to bring perpetrators of the heinous crime to book.

The CP warned criminal and incogitant elements in the state to desist from any act capable of breaking down the law and order or undermining the inviolable sanctity of the peace in the State.

The statement without conceding, also warned the general public to remain calm and continue to remain law-abiding citizens and go about their normal activities without fear.

● Vows to Arrest, Name, Shame, And Bring To Book The Perpetrators Of The Dastardly Act

It is the principal thing to rightly inform the law-abiding citizens of Edo State and the general public of the shooting incident that occurred along Airport Road, Benin City, on the 18th July 2024 at about 1300hrs by hoodlums suspected to be political thugs.

It was said that on the aforementioned date and time, Rt. Hon. Philip Shuaibu and Sen. Monday Okpebholo arrived at Benin Airport from the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, where their supporters in thousands rally round to welcome them.

“Suddenly, some hoodlums suspected to be political thugs emerged from nowhere with guns and other dangerous weapons and started shooting sporadically. In the process, bullets hit a Police Inspector, Insp Onuh Akoh, a personnel of No. 45 Police Mobile Force Abuja attached to Sen. Monday Okpebholo.

“The Police Inspector gave up the ghost on the way to the hospital for treatment and his body deposited at the military hospital in Benin City.

The CP wants to use this sad moment to appeal to the general public to remain calm, continue to be law-abiding citizens, and go about their lawful businesses that the Police and other Sister Security agencies are in firm control of the security situations in the state.

He therefore warns criminal and incogitant elements in the state to desist from any act capable of breaking down the law and order or undermining the inviolable sanctity of the peace in the state.

 

The CP reiterates the command’s inexhaustible commitments in protecting the lives and property of the law-abiding citizens of Edo State and the general public. He, however, vows to arrest, name, shame, and bring to book the perpetrators of this dastardly act.
