Two ex-convicts have been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Command in Oyo State for allegedly hijacking and diverting a delivery vehicle loaded with home alliances to the tune of #9,000,000. 00. (Nine Million Naira).
The Command’s spokesman, SP. Osifeso Adewale who confirmed the incident in a statement, said the suspects, Hammed Oseni and Sodiq Olateju, both employees (drivers) of an undisclosed luxury furniture company from their Ikeja Showroom in Lagos State to a destination at Ilorin in Kwara State.
Adewale said the suspects were detailed to drive the company’s Nissan CABSTER Space Bus loaded with: Air Conditioners, Television Sets and some other Hi-Tech Home appliances on July 1, 2023 in connivance with five other suspects now in police custody.
But, on getting to a desolate spot at Offa-Metta area along Oyo/Ogbomoso expressway, (5) Five members of a criminal armed gang who drove a white Toyota Corolla Car whose registration number was not given in the statement, allegedly attacked the driver and his assistant diverting the vehicle onward an unknown destination.
The police said the incident was reported at ATIBA Divisional Police headquarters and upon the conclusion of their preliminary investigation was transferred to the Command Monitoring Unit for Immediate investigation.
Consequently, the Monitoring Unit commenced action and after series of discreet Intelligence gathering, (2) two members of the criminal gang identified as Mr Olanlokun Idowu and Mr Rasheed Gbolahan were apprehended at their respective hideouts in Oyo town and Ibadan respectively.
“Upon interrogation, it was revealed that the suspects who were masterminds of similar criminal activities in the area, had just been released from prison custody after doing time for various criminal charges”, the police spokesman said, “their voluntary confessional statements and further later led to the arrest of their criminal receivers who identified themselves as Amzat Bello, Ajibade Wasiu Ibrahim Olaotan, Shola Abiodun and Azeez Ademola.
The statement also said the hijacked Nissan Vehicle was later recovered at a location in Ikire, Osun State, while the goods loaded therein were recovered along with other exhibits from their criminal receivers’ store in Ibadan in the ongoing investigation by the police.
