Why Obi’s arrest in London can’t be forgotten in a hurry — Ohanaeze

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has decried the recent arrest of the Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) for the 2023 Presidential election, Peter Obi at Heathrow Airport in London.

Recall that Obi was arrested and detained for few hours by immigration officials at the airport on April 7th 2023.

But, Mr Diran Onifadethe, Head of Obi-Datti Media Office in a statement on Wednesday, said the former governor of Anambra State was wrongly detained over offences allegedly committed by an impostor who is still at large.

Speaking in an interview with TheNewspad Correspondent, Chief Damian Okeke Ogene, the acting President of the Pan Igbo socio-Cultural group, said
“The consequences of the action of British government, can’t be forgotten in a hurry”.

Okeke Ogene said, “AIthough the government of the united kingdom has apologized, the grave consequences and intent can’t be forgotten in a hurry.

“Whatever reason that the UK government gave  to this embarrassment is not only to Peter Obi it to the entire peace loving people of Nigeria and by extension the long oppressed people of the South East Nigeria”, according to him.

The Igbo leader, commended the British government for their humility and respect to humanity and advised Nigerian leaders.

He said the development as a dangerous precedence to the nations Democratic process even as he advised Nigerians to be guided by the principles of justice, equality and fairness in order to remain politically revenant before the international Community.

“We are watching with interest the unfolding drama but I would advise all those who are beating the drums of war in Nigeria to retrace their steps and play the game of politics with decorum, and according to rule, as such would portray   the future  development and unity  of the country in bad light”, Ohanaeze Acting President said.

“The claimed that the United Kingdom government immigration official admitted it wrongly handed him a detention not in search of a man who impersonated him to commit perjury, forgery and identity theft.

“But until Nigerians and the international Community are convinced that the arrest and detention was not aimed at bringing him to ridicule and possibly portray him as a criminal”, Ohanaeze Ndigbo leader said.
