17 pregnant teens, kids rescued in Abia baby factory

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Command in Abia State have rescued 17 pregnant teens from a baby factory in the State.

Six months old baby and
a set of twins were taken into captive along with the trafficked teenagers.

The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP
Danladi Isa, confirmed this while addressing journalists at police headquarters.

He explained that three female suspects, Chinwendu Ifeanyi, 20, and Mary Ifeanyi, 50,
Assumpta Ikechukwu, 47, in connection with the crime on Thursday.

The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Maureen Chinaka said in a statement issued on behalf of the Police boss who said five children, one infant, and 17 taken as hostages were rescued by the police.

CP Isa recalled that
On October 2024, the Command received a report from Quick Intervention Unit (QIU) Umuahia that Chinwendu Ifeanyi and her mother Mary Ifeanyi.

He further said Ifeanyi who hails from Mbarakuma Ubakala in Umuahia South Local Government Area, allegedly conspired and sold a one week old baby and ran and hid themselves at Isiala-Ngwa.

Upon this report, police officers from the above Formation apprehended the two suspects who confessed to the crime, according to the CP.

He said leveraging credible information, on October 16th, 2024, Ikechukwu Assumpta was also arrested in Owerri, Imo State Capital where one pregnant girl and a six months old baby boy were rescued from her house.

In furtherance of investigation, Police detectives raided an alleged orphanage home where 16 pregnant girls and a set of twins were rescued, CP Isa said.

He further said the case has been transferred to Imo state Police Command for discreet investigation.
